A Hamilton owner-managed group of five business entities focused on municipal emergency construction contracts, property management and property rental businesses needs a Bookkeeper/Accountant who will support a transition from MYOB to SAGE ERP.
Position Goals/Overview:
Manages the organisation financial records, tracks transactions and ensures general ledgers are accurate and up to date.

Position Behaviours:
Utilizing an excellent command of English (spoken & written), the Owner is looking for a reliable, ‘nice to deal with in the office’ and trustworthy Bookkeeper/Accountant who takes the initiative to consistently demonstrate initiative while consistently ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of the accounting and other reporting & admin.
*The incumbent should be a positive perfectionist, who is capable of working in a specialist or technical area of expertise. *Should be organized, thorough, enjoy challenging situations and have the persistence to see each task through to completion. *Gets things right, is attentive to detail, ensuring quality and standards are consistently met and reducing error to a minimum are important factors in this Bookkeeper/Accountant position. *Researches and gathers facts and working with formulas and/or computer systems to specifications are also part of the job. *Will be a logical and systematic person; conventional, accurate, shrewd, methodical, dependable, a self-starter, serious, probing, objective, self-reliant and inquisitive by nature. *Maintains standard operating procedures and works to clearly defined guidelines.
Position Responsibilities:
Enter daily sales, purchases, receipts and payments into the accounting software. (Currently MYOB moving to SAGE). The incoming Bookkeeper/Accountant will be actively involved in the conversion to the new ERP (SAGE).
Issue invoices, track incoming customer payments and pay vendor bills.
Reconciliation – match bank and credit card statements with internal ledgers to fix discrepancies.
Assist one of the Owner’s adult child with Payroll processing for approximately 16 unionized employees – calculate wages, process withholding and issues employee and union payments. The Bookkeeper/Accountant accurately reports a data package to the Unions on the fifteenth day of every month.
Financial reporting – prepare preliminary reports like balance sheets, trial balances, profit and loss statements for management and the external accountants.
Complete and submit tax remittance forms, workers’ compensation forms, RRSP and other government documents.
Keep financial records and establish, maintain and balance various accounts using manual and computerized bookkeeping systems.
Post journal entries and reconcile accounts, prepare trial balance of books, maintain general ledgers and prepare financial statements.
Prepare accurate tax return information for the external tax professionals to finalize and submit after executive sign off.
Prepare other statistical, financial and accounting reports including monthly project status update provided tot he main, municipal, customer.
Salary Range:
$51,000 to $61,000 plus benefits – depending on experience. Construction and/or real estate rental industry experience an asset.
