Manager, Accounting, Downtown Toronto

Our customer is a fast growing, children’s decor & accessories, design, production and sales, private company located in upper downtown Toronto. They design their playfully sophisticated products and accessories in Toronto and responsibly produce them in India.
Reporting to the two founders/Co-CEO’s, due to rapid growth of the business, our customer needs to hire their first full-time financial professional – a Manager, Accounting. Our customer needs not only a technically competent, hands-on, CPA but, one who can help them effectively manage their rapid growth by implementing structure and process changes that prepare the company for further development. The Manager, Accounting will ‘own’ the accounting and administration functions and is an excellent opportunity to touch all aspects of a rapidly growing, profitable, private company.
The salary range for this Manager, Accounting position is $75,000 to $90,000 plus benefits, payment of annual CPA membership & training/P.D. fees and an opportunity to earn a performance based bonus of up to 10%.

Position Responsibilities:
Upon arrival, meet with the co-founders, department leaders and staff and establish and then actively maintain constructive business relationships with them. Learn about the current accounting structure; the current procedures, software solutions (Quickbooks), the reporting requirements and start to plan and take action to ensure the business has the reporting and controls in place to ensure both compliance and is properly prepared for further business growth.
Personally perform the day-to-day general ledger accounting, financial reporting and analysis and ensure that all financials are prepared in accordance with GAAP in a professional and timely manner.
Update and maintain a fully integrated financial forecasting model that is in line with the strategic and operational plans of the business.
Perform the month-end close process which includes posting journal entries, performing account reconciliations, investigating variances and summarizing results.
Create relevant and meaningful financial analysis and interpretation of the monthly results.
Recommend, implement, maintain and control all policies and procedures related to the financial and business practices of the business.
Prepare all annual financial review and tax engagement schedules. (Aug. 31 year-end)
Administration of the on-boarding and off-boarding of employees and contractors – including job offers, contracts and other HR master data management where necessary.
Processing payroll and benefits, payroll reporting and all payroll related filing.
Procurement and other vendor management analysis and correspondence.
Accounting for the inventory of the business – working with the e-commerce platform, the warehouse and general ledger.
Responsible for performing special projects to improve process efficiency and performance.
Other tasks and projects required of a Manager, Accounting consistently looking to add value, contribute positively and effectively guide the company through and towards even more growth and profitability.
