Financial Controller | Bilingual: English & Chinese

This real estate company was established in 1994 and headquartered in Shenzhen, China. The company entered the North American (Canadian) market and acquired multiple high-quality projects in the GTA in the last few years. They are dedicated to creating high quality living spaces for customers.
Our customer wants to hire a bilingual (English & Mandarin or Cantonese), qualified CPA,Financial Controller who possesses experience with a real estate (residential) developer, ideally with an excellent understanding of both high-rise and low-rise development finance. The salary range for this Bilingual Financial Controller position is $95,000 to $135,000, (dependent upon experience) benefits and a performance based bonus.

Position Responsibilities
  • Reporting to the Markham Office Management and dotted line to the Department of Finance at Headquarters, the Financial Controller will be responsible for the management of the Toronto finance operations and staff, with full oversight of the daily accounting activities and professional development.
  • Lead on various tasks with a special focus on preparing year-end files and regular general ledger review to ensure accuracy and integrity of the financial statements and accounting reports.
  • Oversee the budgets of multiple projects and perform effective budget forecasting as well as cash flow projections.
  • Effectively manage and supervise all aspects of accounting matters throughout the company’s multiple entities.
  • Provide accounting direction on all accounting processes including the processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable, taxes and all related functions.
  • Communicate with the business management team, understand their financial administration needs and provide business analytics and reports as required.
  • Review and guide on agreements concerning financial obligations, such as contracts for products or services and other actions requiring a commitment of financial resources.
  • Effectively manage and supervise all aspects of accounting matters throughout the company’s multiple entities.
  • Maintain good relations with local bank financing and debt ratios to support compliance, stability and future growth.
  • Via the effective management and oversight of staff and hands-on personal effort, take responsibility for maintaining timely and accurate financial statements and reports that are appropriate for the users and in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of month-end closing, including completion of journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Work with staff to establish performance goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff and organisational effectiveness in general.
Position Qualifications
The company requires a bilingual (English & Chinese) Financial Controller who:
  • Must be familiar with the finance and accounting of the full real estate (residential) development and construction cycle
  • Brings solid experience in accounting procedures, controls, corporate tax regulations and external auditing
  • Helps control costs via effective financial analysis, accurate costing, budgeting and new project expansion
  • Has hands-on Quickbooks skills – Jonas Premier skills are a bonus
  • Has a strong understanding of accounting principles ans standards
  • Ensures compliance with the financial policies of the organisation
  • Has strong analytical abilities required in interpreting the reports and providing guidance to management in support of decision making
  • Consistently demonstrates a high sense of work responsibility
  • Has strong, bilingual, communication and people skills (written & spoken English & Mandarin or Cantonese)
  • Pays attention to the details and carefully plans and executes the work
  • Will meet the work culture expectation of constantly learning and improving so the company can most effectively face intense market competition
  • Regularly develops professional skills and knowledge and those of team members to enable the company to get stronger and create a performance-oriented atmosphere

  • Has progressive financial accounting experience – including hands-on preparation of financial statements

  • Is a team player and a collaborator who will also maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information
