Our customer is profitable, rapidly growing, family owned and operated, large equipment rental company based in Hamilton. 

An onsite position reporting to the Controller, the salary range for this hands-on Accounting Manager/Assistant Controller position is $75,000 to $91,000 (dependent upon experience), benefits, a 10-15% performance based bonus and payment of annual CPA/CFA or student membership & training/P.D. fees. Some preference will be given to candidates with knowledge and/or experience with Business Analytics applications.

Position Objective:

To provide support to the Accounting, Purchasing and Credit departments and work alongside the Controller to develop additional KPI templates and perform hands-on analysis and work to help facilitate process improvements and top notch senior executive decision making. All while freeing up the Controller to work on strategic and senior leadership team initiatives.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform account reconciliations and post journal entries and supervise that work performed by three staff
  • Preparation of month-end financial statements with related P&L analysis
  • Provide support and supervision to other accounting functions as required
  • Prepare budget-to-actual reports and variance analysis, analyzing results to explain variances and identify trends
  • Various Business Analytics including: Quarterly utilization, weekly KPIs, journalize bi-weekly Payroll
  • Prepare standard recurring reports (sales rolling forecast, availability schedule, legacy reports, etc.)
  • Prepare other ad hoc reports as required (within the Microsoft Dynamics system and exporting into Excel where required)
  • Perform daily online deposits
  • Lead the planning and execution of day to day activities of the Accounting team
  • Perform other related duties and reporting and participate in special departmental projects
  • Create ad-hoc financial reports and analyze and present to senior management on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis
  • Provide coaching and direction to the Accounting team members (three Accounting Associate direct reports)
  • Compile, analyze and manipulate data from multiple in-house software to build out KPI (Key Performance Indicator) templates in Excel to help facilitate process improvements
  • Perform sales analysis and other ad hoc reporting/analysis as required
  • Enforce credit terms by monitoring and evaluating payment performance/credit status of existing customers
  • While maintaining effective communications with the Controller and the customer account-related Sales people, recommend and implement corrective actions for delinquent accounts: credit holds, COD, etc.
  • Regularly evaluate credit policies to monitor compliance and internal control procedures
  • Assist the Controller in ensuring compliance with financial regulatory requirements
  • Oversee the monthly HST and WSIB reporting
  • Become the go-to person for Microsoft Dynamics related questions
  • Effectively supervise the work of three staff and help them to develop their career contributions and work satisfaction within the company
  • Assist the Controller to lead special projects as required
